SignificanceThe Pyramids of Ancient Egypt were built to hold the tombs of pharaohs. We included pyramids on this webpage because they protected the Pharaohs from getting tomb raided. They are easy to find, but most of them were so big that they could make may traps in the tombs. This way tomb raiders would have a lesser chance of stealing the pharaohs wealth.

How the Ancient Egyptians built pyramids
The Egyptian pyramids were built by a workforce of 200,000 to 300,000 men. Limestone was used to build the core of the pyramid and finer limestone to cover the cover. Huge limestone blocks would be pulled on a wooden sled by many men while someone poured water down the front. We know this is how they transported the stone because of a painting in an Egyptian tomb. The painting depicted 173 men pulling a huge statue on a sled while someone lubricated the ground in front of the sled. In the process of building the pyramid a huge mud ramp would be built. As more stone blocks were dropped into place and the pyramid got bigger the workers made the mud brick ramp bigger. Once the pyramid is finished the mud brick ramp is taken down and the tomb is dug out. After the tomb is dug out the pyramid is finished.
